Adductor Muscles

KEY POINTS

- adductor muscle injuries are the second most common muscle injury (up to 23% of new injuries) in sports like football (aka soccer)
- adductor-related pain is responsible for 51% of groin pain in athletes
- athletes who sustain adductor muscle injuries were identified as having both (1) weak adductor muscles; and (2) weak adductor muscle compared to the strength of their abductor muscles (low adduction:abduction strength ratio)

- adding adductor strengthening exercises to pre-season, in-season and post injury training is effective to reduce the risk of groin injury by over 40%
