Quadriceps Injuries
KEY POINTS
- the quadriceps muscle group is made up of 4 different muscles, of which the rectus femoris is the most injured quad muscle, as it is the only quad to act on both the hip and knee joints
- quadriceps injuries normally occur during acceleration, deceleration or kicking
- up to 1 in 5 quad muscle injuries will reoccur, making proper rehabilitation important
- injury prevention strategies include increasing muscle flexibility, eccentric strengthening, truck & core stability exercises, kicking load monitoring, and sprint & deceleration training
